ASSESSMENTS
At Mind Life Clinic, we offer a range of psychometric assessment services for both adults and children. These assessments can help to investigate developmental delays, learning difficulties and provide direction for interventions at home, school, and work. Assessments can include intellectual, educational, neuro-developmental, and behavioural investigations. Many seek these investigations for themselves or family members to explore personal strengths and weaknesses, intellectual giftedness, learning styles and to investigate the presence of neuro-developmental disorders. Our experienced and engaging clinicians seek to make these assessments as quick and easy as possible for all consumers.
Do I need a referral?
No 😊 Anyone can request testing at any time. However, it may be helpful to gain supporting information from your health professionals to aid in the assessment process.
What does testing involve?
Our clinicians attempt to streamline testing procedures as much as possible to minimise the wait time, the burden to you and others and the cost of your assessment. As such initial procedures may include providing you questionnaires or forms to direct your assessment to the right area as quickly and as easily as possible.
General testing procedures may typically include the following:
- Initial screening via questionnaires
- A clinical interview
- Cognitive testing
- Behavioural assessment
- Family screening/interviews
- Collecting information from school or occupational organisations
We endeavour to only complete tests that are necessary and helpful and will keep you informed if we believe further testing may be necessary.
What do you test for?
Testing can be performed for many different reasons. Some of the typical cases that assessment investigates can include:
- Personal intellectual strengths and weaknesses
- Intellectual giftedness.
- Intellectual disability
- Specific learning disorder
- Reading (dyslexia)
- Writing (dysgraphia)
- Maths (dyscalculia)
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (Hyperactive and/or Inattentive)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Cost
The cost of assessments can depend on the complexity of the presenting condition and number of hours required. As such this can vary significantly. However, we always try to minimise time and costs to ensure that these are accessible to all. Unfortunately, assessments are not covered by Mental Health Care Plans. Generally, we require payment prior to the assessment session so we can provide feedback to you right away. However, please feel free to contact us for more information and to discuss your options.
